The sixth and seventh floors mark a new chapter in MESA’s work at PSO Head Office. Learning from the earlier workplace informs a broader question: how can the floor give people more choice in the way they work together? The response brings focused desks, small conversations, formal meetings and informal exchange into one connected environment.

PROLOGUE / THE STARTING POINT

Before a new rhythm, read the existing one.

The journey begins with the recorded office and continues through the work of opening it up and considering its materials.

Tall desk partitions and storage define the recorded office. The renewed brief asks what happens between those individual settings: where people meet, how they move and where shared life can take place.

FROM OBSERVATION TO DESIGN

More choice within a shared whole.

The design shifts emphasis from the individual workstation alone to the relationships around it. Open work bays, nearby meeting settings, visible routes and places to pause give the floor a range of uses. This is the performative ambition: a workplace that can accommodate the changing pace and scale of the working day.

Long workstations form the everyday centre of the office. Low screens give each desk a defined place within a shared room.

Make the boundary useful.

Storage and planting sit at the ends of the work bays. They mark an edge while leaving the larger workplace in view.

Huddle rooms

A few steps to a small meeting.

A glazed room puts a four-person discussion beside the shared floor. Its scale is deliberately different from the long work bays outside.

The room is enclosed, but its yellow chairs and illuminated ceiling remain visible from the corridor.

Small-group exchange

Make room for parallel conversations.

Two compact settings sit side by side. Repeated tables and chairs give small groups a place of their own within the wider plan.

The glazed division gives each table setting a boundary while the repeated furniture connects the two spaces.

The boardroom

Bring the group together.

A longer table accommodates a different scale of discussion. The city-facing window wall gives the room a shared outlook.

The pendant geometry gathers over the table, while the display anchors the end wall.

The pause belongs to the workplace.

A shared pause

Sit around, rather than in a row.

Curved seating turns the lounge towards a shared centre. A chessboard and coffee point introduce another tempo to the working day.

Informal gathering

Soft seating and small tables invite a less formal conversation. Colour gives this setting a distinct presence within the office.

A high table offers a different posture and a smaller footprint for gathering. The workplace gains variety through furniture as well as rooms.

Timber & rhythm

A boundary with gaps.

Timber fins mark a lounge while allowing glimpses across it. Their changing height makes the threshold part of the room’s character.

Turn a corner gently.

Curved glazing gives the enclosed room a rounded edge where it meets the shared aisle. The route continues past it without a hard visual stop.
